Smart Routing, full tunnel and split tunneling explained

Separate connection modes from exceptions and troubleshoot one app by changing one condition at a time.

Separate the mode from its exceptions

Smart Routing selects traffic using rules; full tunnel broadens the traffic sent through the proxy. Split tunneling lets selected apps or websites bypass it. Actual coverage depends on the current client and its exceptions.

Focus on one target

If one site fails, record its address, the error and the time. Open a normally working website on the same device to distinguish basic network trouble from a target-specific problem. A connected indicator alone does not show that every app uses the same route.

Make the comparison repeatable

Keep the device, network and target unchanged. Record the original mode, change one routing option and reopen the same page. Reconnect if the client requires it. If nothing improves, restore the setting before testing another condition.

Browser caches, website maintenance and account restrictions can also affect the result. Routing is not a universal fix and does not establish that a website is trustworthy.

Record what changed

Keep a short record of original mode, changed option and result, together with the client version. If only one app fails, mention whether other apps work. Passwords, access tokens and your complete browsing history are not needed.
